Tapered taps are for drilling, rotatable drill pipes and standpipes (GOST 8483-81).

All-purpose tapered taps are used in cases, when a part of drilling pipe, which left in hole, ends with muft, joint tool or pin, and also butt pipe end. Rotatable drill pipes and standpipes are also taken out by all-purpose tapered taps.

Special tapered taps catch only thread of mufts, joint tools or pins. Choice of such a tapered tap depends on type and condition of thread, which is established by the ending connection of updip part of column.

Tapered taps are defined to extract broken pipe independent from hardness of its surface. They allow rotating and compressing pipes, to wash hole with the help of emergency tool, unscrew the columns through disconnection adapter or on parts.

According to constructive performance, tapered taps are divided into singlestage, which connect with pipe only or with joint tool only, and doublestage, which connect with any column element. According to the way of fastening, they are divided into jawed and bore bit closing mechanism.
